The Trojan Horse in the Pews: Unmasking the Hidden Agenda of The Passion Translation

In recent years, a new "Bible" has swept through charismatic circles, praised for its "heart-level" language and "fresh revelation." It is called The Passion Translation (TPT). But beneath its poetic veneer lies a calculated attempt to rewrite the DNA of the Christian faith.

What is being marketed as a bridge to God’s heart is, in reality, a subversive tool designed to replace the objective Truth of Holy Scripture with an occult, New Age-flavored agenda.

1. The Foundation of Deception: Extra-Biblical Revelation

The foundational crisis of TPT begins with Brian Simmons’ claim to divine authority. As documented in The Counterfeit Kingdom, Simmons’ justification rests on a staggering claim of extra-biblical visitation:

"Jesus Christ came into my room. He stood before me and He laid His hands on me... and He promised me that He would give me a new spirit of revelation to help me translate the Bible." (Simmons, quoted in The Counterfeit Kingdom, Ch. 7)

This is the hallmark of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR): an extensive reliance on personal revelation that bypasses the written Word. When challenged, NAR founder C. Peter Wagner defended this by stating, "God is always providing the church with 'new revelation.'" But as Jesus stated in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." The definite article "the" admits no rivals or "new" versions. There is only one Truth.

2. The Four Reasons TPT is "Passionately Wrong"

In The Counterfeit Kingdom, Pivec and Geivett expose the academic facade used to justify Simmons' alterations:

Reason 1: It is a One-Man "Translation" Crisis.

Unlike legitimate translations produced by committees of scholars, TPT is the product of Brian Simmons alone, allowing his personal NAR "revelations" to be baked directly into the text.

Reason 2: The Mythical Aramaic Manuscripts

Simmons relies on a "myth of the Aramaic original" to bypass the actual Greek text. There simply are no original Aramaic manuscripts.

Reason 3: Systematic Smuggling of NAR Doctrine.

TPT inserts terms central to NAR and New Age mysticism (like "realms" and "frequencies") where they do not exist in the original manuscripts.

Reason 4: The Illusion of Academic Accreditation.

Simmons' degree was obtained from Wagner University—an unaccredited NAR institution. But who needs earthly academic credentials when Simmons claims a direct heavenly mandate? It is beyond troubling, however, to suggest that Jesus would authorize a "translation" that systematically contradicts the very Scriptures He previously inspired.

3. The Subversive "Prophetic" Agenda: The Mark of Christ

To understand the end-game, we look to the fruit of TPT’s influence in NAR leaders like Brian Guerin. In a startling prophetic announcement, Guerin claims a vision of a "Seal of God" or "Mark of Christ" that is coming to the global body of believers.

Watch Brian Guerin encourage a Christian congregation to call for the "Mark of Christ" on their foreheads and their hands.

Guerin frames this as a divine "marking" placed on both the forehead and the hand. However, a direct biblical comparison reveals that Guerin is not describing the Mark of God, but its satanic counterfeit: the Mark of the Beast.

The Significance of the "Hand":

In Scripture, the forehead represents the seat of the mind, belief, and will. The hand represents works, labor, and the practical outworking of that belief. God seals the foreheads of His people because He requires the heart and the mind. Satan, the great counterfeiter, demands the hand as well—signifying total control over a person's ability to "buy and sell" (economic dependency) and their physical "works" (signs and wonders).

When Guerin calls for a mark on the hand, he is explicitly departing from the biblical description of God's seal and aligning with the very criteria for the Mark of the Beast. This is a profound spiritual inversion: by using TPT-coded language to make this "new era" activation sound biblical, they are conditioning believers to accept the very mark that the Bible warns leads to eternal destruction.

4. The Deification of Man and "Christ Consciousness"

Simmons’ "Theological Smuggling" targets the very nature of God. TPT often handles the title of "Christ" as an "anointing" that believers can attain. This mirrors the New Age concept of "Christ Consciousness" and the occult goal of the deification of man. By shifting the focus from the unique Person of Jesus to a repeatable "anointing," TPT effectively empties the Cross of its singular power.

5. Deflecting Criticism: The Armor of Deception

NAR defenders use "The Paraphrase Defense," claiming TPT is just like The Message. This is false; TPT is marketed as a translation. They also use "Spirit vs. Letter" gaslighting, misusing 2 Corinthians 3:6 to dismiss critique. But the Holy Spirit will never lead a believer to a "truth" that contradicts the "Letter" He inspired.

Conclusion: Playing with Fire

Jesus said in John 8:32, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The Bible is clear in Matthew 4:4, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." These words are found exclusively in the closed canon of Scripture. The warnings of Revelation 22:18-19 are severe.

Make no mistake: those who support these deceptive practices are playing with fire. They have become complicit in Satan’s agenda to undermine The Truth and the Deity of Jesus Christ, the only True God. Christians are not free to play in the enemy’s camp thinking there will be no consequences for complicity in spiritual deception.

Lastly, remember Hosea 4:6: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." This knowledge is biblical doctrine, not a "revelatory" download. Reject this "Trojan Horse," return to accurate translations, and cling to the Jesus of the Bible—not the "Christ-anointing" of Brian Simmons.

The Truth does not need a rewrite; it needs to be obeyed.
