A 52-Year Journey: From Evangelism & Worship Ministry to Unmasking Deception

My name is Alan Vincent, primary researcher and author behind NAR Trojan Horse and the NAR Trojan Horse YouTube channel. My commitment to exposing spiritual deception is not born out of academic theory or sudden cynicism—it is the fruit of a 52-year walk with Jesus Christ across three continents.

1974 - Conversion

My journey began when I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ in 1974 in a Full Gospel church in my home town Port Elizabeth in South Africa. Almost immediately after coming to faith, I became aware of subtle deceptions operating within popular Christian literature and church culture. At the time, I lacked the formal theological vocabulary to fully define what I was witnessing, but the Holy Spirit placed a persistent sense of caution within my heart.

I Served in the South African Air Force during the conflict in South West Africa and Angola—a war closely mirroring the dynamics of the Vietnam War, and fought against communist insurgency attempting to infiltrate Southern Africa. It was during military operations that I gained firsthand, foundational knowledge of warfare and learned how physical combat principles directly translate into spiritual warfare. The most vital lesson forged in the heat of battle was a timeless truth: all warfare is based on deception. Recognizing the enemy's tactics of subtlety and illusion in the physical realm became the key to discerning and overcoming the same strategies in the spiritual realm.

Seminary & Gospel Ministry in Africa

To ground my faith in solid biblical truth, I attended Bible seminary in South Africa. As a musician with a deep heart for worship, I served in worship leadership across multiple local churches and was eventually appointed Music Director for a full-time Youth for Christ team, touring across Africa to preach the uncompromised Gospel.

A Three-Continent Perspective

Through the Lord’s clear direction over five decades, my family and I have lived on three continents—South Africa, England, and the United States. Attending and serving in churches across various cultures worldwide opened my eyes to a startling reality: the exact same spiritual deceptions were operating globally.

Connecting the Dots (New Age, Occultism, and the NAR)

Years later, while conducting an in-depth study into the New Age Movement, modern occultism, and Word of Faith heresies, the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) first came to my attention. I vividly recall recognizing how exceptionally dangerous this movement was, though its full global architecture was not yet widely visible.

It was only after moving to the United States that the true, staggering scale of this deception became undeniable. I realized that what was being exported globally as a "new move of God" was, in reality, a modern Trojan Horse—smuggling Gnostic metaphysics, Word of Faith, New Age doctrines, and Seven Mountain Dominionism directly into the Body of Christ. Driven by a profound conviction to warn and protect the Church, NAR Trojan Horse and our video ministry was born.

Spiritual Warfare, Demonic Oppression, and the Reality of Spiritual Deception

First-hand experience with the demonic: Over a period of many years, I had first-hand experience with people who were demonised and with the ministry of casting out demons. These experiences profoundly shaped my understanding of the spiritual dimension of the Christian life. I became convinced that the reality of demonic activity, as described in Scripture, must not be dismissed, ridiculed, or explained away. The Bible also warns explicitly that some teachings originate from deceiving spirits and are described as “doctrines of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1).

Christians have real enemies, both in the physical world and in the spiritual realm. However, we must understand that our ultimate struggle is not merely against human beings. As the apostle Paul declares in Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (KJV).

This truth is essential to understanding how spiritual deception operates. Behind many forms of religious deception lies a spiritual battle over truth, the character of God, the authority of His Word, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Not every error or disagreement should automatically be attributed to demonic activity, but Scripture repeatedly warns that Satan deceives, distorts God's Word, and disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:3, 14). We must therefore test every teaching, spiritual experience, prophecy, and claim of divine revelation against the written Word of God.

God has not left His people defenceless. He has equipped every believer to stand against the schemes of the devil, not through human power, sensational experiences, or submission to self-appointed spiritual authorities, but through the resources He has provided us with. Every believer is equipped with weapons of war, just as the South African government issued weapons for it's soldiers to wage war.

The Full Armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18)

• The belt of truth — knowing and standing firmly in God's truth.
• The breastplate of righteousness — living in the righteousness God provides and walking in obedience to Him.
• The gospel of peace — standing secure in the gospel and being prepared to proclaim it.
• The shield of faith — trusting God and resisting the enemy's attacks.
• The helmet of salvation — standing firm in the assurance and hope of salvation.
• The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God — using Scripture to expose error and resist deception.
• Prayer and supplication — persevering in prayer, dependent on God and alert to the needs of fellow believers.

These are the elements of the armor of God described in Ephesians 6:10–18. Paul also reminds us in 2 Corinthians 10:4–5 that the weapons of our warfare are not worldly but have divine power to demolish strongholds, overthrow arguments that oppose the knowledge of God, and bring our thoughts into obedience to Christ.

My years of first-hand experience have reinforced my conviction that the spiritual realm is real and that Christians must take the Bible's warnings seriously. Yet the answer to spiritual deception is not fear, fascination with the demonic, or unquestioning allegiance to those who claim special spiritual authority. It is discernment grounded in Scripture, faith in Jesus Christ, obedience to God's Word, and the faithful use of the spiritual resources God has given to every believer.

My conviction is that the Church must recover a biblical understanding of spiritual warfare while remaining firmly anchored in the truth of God's Word. We must recognize the reality of our spiritual enemies without losing sight of the sufficiency of Christ, the authority of Scripture, and the responsibility of every believer to test all things and hold fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Ancient errors rarely enter a biblically grounded church through open debate. Instead, NAR theology is smuggled covertly through:

1. Worship Music & Culture: Subjective, experience-driven lyrics and emotional atmospheres that gradually reshape a congregation's core theology away from the Cross.
2. Rebranded Governance: The gradual replacement of local church elder oversight with authoritarian modern-day "Apostles" and "Prophets."
3. Metaphysical Terminology: Christianizing occult and New Age concepts—such as "quantum faith," frequency shifts, the Enneagram, and "little gods" theology—to promote human sovereignty over God's sovereignty.
