From Performance to Peace
From Prophetic Trainer to Watchman: Eric Hale shares his journey of escaping the "spiritual mechanics" of the Word of Faith and finding peace in the sufficiency of Christ’s grace.
My Journey Out of the Word of Faith and Into the Watchman's Calling
The Burden of "Spiritual Mechanics"
For over 30 years, I served in Christian leadership, much of it spent within the corridors of the Word of Faith movement. As a "Prophetic Trainer," I taught others how to "activate" the gifts of the Spirit. But behind the scenes, I was fighting a silent battle with chronic pain—a "thorn in the flesh" that the very theology I preached could not explain.
But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness'. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
In that environment, I was taught a rigid system of spiritual mechanics: if you aren't healed, it is blamed on secret sin, a lack of personal faith, or "negative confessions." For years, I carried the crushing weight of faith-shaming, believing my physical suffering was a sign of personal spiritual failure.
The Turning Point: Sovereignty Over Command
My journey from a Prophetic Trainer to a Watchman began when the "formula" finally broke. Through the lens of Scripture, I realized that the Holy Spirit is not a force to be manipulated, and the gifts of God are distributed as He determines—not as we command.
I began to see that these movements were not a fresh move of the Spirit, but a "Trojan Horse" delivering a dangerous, performance-based DNA. The "revelations" I once facilitated were often extra-biblical burdens that obscured the simple, profound sufficiency of the Gospel.
A New Mission as a Watchman
Today, as a co-founder of the Watchman Project, my mission is to help others trade the exhaustion of religious performance for the rest found in Christ. If you have been told your illness is a lack of faith, or if you are weary from trying to "manifest" a breakthrough that never comes, I want you to know: God’s grace is sufficient for you, and His strength is made perfect in your weakness.
